Ahead of next week’s two London shows, Helsinki voyager Jaakko Eino Kalevi today shares new song ‘When You Walk Through Them All’. Another highlight from his forthcoming ‘Dreamzone’ EP, set for release on December 2nd.
A profoundly tuneful meditation on the nature of destiny set to a swaggering groove that unfurls into sax-ravished Bowie-in-Berlin melodrama, ‘When You Walk Through Them All’ follows first single “No End” and offers further evidence that Jaakko is cut from a different cloth to most. Listen to both songs here.
Alongside the already announced show at The Lexington on November 28th, Jaakko has also today announced a London headline performance at Servant’s Jazz Quarters two days earlier, November 26th. The show is free and more information can be found here.
Already something of a cult figure in Helsinki, where he lives and works part-time as a tram driver, Jaakko’s (pronounced “Yah-koh”) debut release for the label is an alluring introduction to a charismatic artist whose softly psychedelic pop blends funk and folk in an intriguing and highly satisfying manner. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist who is happiest behind the drums, Jaakko plays, sings and produces all his own material. Having released a steady stream of diverse music on local labels for several years, Jaakko has long been considered one ofFinland’s most promising young artists and with his signing to Weird World becomes the first ever Nordic artist to work with Domino or its subsidiaries in the label’s 20-year history.
The Dreamzone EP is released by Weird World on December 2nd 2013. Pre-order here
